Event Overview:
Addiction is a major challenge that impacts individuals and communities. Event Structure:

Welcome and Introduction
Maria Kroener will begin the session by introducing herself and outlining her experience as a Substance Use Counselor. She will provide an overview of the session’s goals and emphasize the importance of addiction awareness and education within the community.

Understanding Addiction: The Basics
This section will cover the definition of addiction and explore its various forms, including substance use and behavioral addictions. Participants will learn about the neuroscience of addiction and how substances and behaviors affect the brain. The session will also examine the stages of addiction, from experimentation to dependence.

Addiction in Context: Social and Environmental Factors
A discussion on how social, environmental, and genetic factors contribute to the development of addiction. The session will explore the intersections of trauma, stress, and mental health with addiction, as well as the impact addiction has on families and communities. Addressing stigma will also be a key focus.
